Product Description

About Product

  • A silicon spreader is a silicon-based, non-ionic surfactant used as an agricultural spray adjuvant.
  • It is added to agrochemical mixtures, such as pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers, to improve their performance by enhancing wetting, spreading, and penetration on plant surfaces.

Technical Content

  • Composition: Spredosil is typically a non-ionic surfactant formulated from low molecular weight silicon polyether.
  • Spredosil products are typically a high percentage of pure silicone surfactant.

Features

  • Low surface tension: The ability to significantly reduce the surface tension of water is its primary function.
  • Non-ionic nature: Its non-ionic charge makes it compatible with a wide range of other agrochemicals.
  • Water soluble: It is easily miscible in aqueous systems (water). High purity: Commercial products are typically a high percentage of pure silicone surfactant.

Mode of Action

  • A silicon spreader works through its function as a super-wetting agent, targeting and dramatically reducing the surface tension of the spray solution.
  • Lowering surface tension: When a spray droplet hits a water-repellent leaf surface, it naturally beads up and rolls off. The silicon-based surfactant molecules move to the surface of the water droplets, significantly lowering the surface tension.
  • Facilitating spreading: The lowered surface tension allows the droplets to overcome the hydrophobic (water-repelling) nature of the leaf. This causes the droplets to spread out rapidly and evenly across the entire surface.
  • Enhancing penetration: Once the chemical is spread in a thin, uniform layer, its low molecular weight and penetrating properties help it pass through the plant’s waxy cuticle and enter the internal tissue via the stomata.
  • Promoting rain fastness: The rapid absorption into the plant tissue ensures that the active ingredients are inside the plant within hours, preventing them from being washed away by rain.

Dosage

  • Dosage: Foliar Spray: 0.33 ml per litre of water Crops: All crops (vegetables, flowers, cereals, pulses, fruits, spices)
