Yellow vein mosaic of bhindi or vein clearing of bhindi is the most devastating disease in all the bhindi growing regions of India. Up to 80% of crop loss is expected if the crop is infected at early stages.

Begamo virus is the causal organism and transmitted by white fly Bemisia tabaci. The occurrence and infestation of white flies are more severe in summer months and Yellow vein mosaic viral infections is also high.

  • Ammoniacal nitrogen has also positive advantage towards increase of viral infections so restrict use of ammoniacal nitrogen application instead go for Nitrate form of Nitrogen.
  • Removing and destroying disease affected plants from crop fields to avoid secondary spread.

Organic management [Mechanical method] of brinjal shoot and fruit borer

Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer (Leucinodes orbonalis) is very important pest of brinjal crop.

Water-trough pheromone traps may be used to mass trap male adult of Brinjal shoot and fruit borer moths with Leucinodes lures.

The pheromones traps trap the adult male moths (and not female ones) and kills in the fields which will be flying in the brinjal fields in search of female moths for mating.

This avoids the mating phenomenon with female moths and reduces the fertilization of the eggs laid by female moths consequently reduce the carryover of pest.

Control the Fungal wilt in Pomegranate plantations

                                Pomegranate wilt disease caused by fungus

Chemical fungicide treatment both chemical and biological agents to the soil or root zone may help in protect the pomegranate [Punica granatum] plants from the fungal infection caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata.

Drenching of the following combination treatments may be administered through drenching at early stages of the infection and when symptoms are evident. About 5 litres of the combination must be drenched at 10 days intervals two times alternatively after loosening the soil around all the plants irrespective of plants [Infected or healthy].

First drench [1st Day and 21st day]

Dhanuka Zerox 2.25 mL/L + Dithane M- 45 3 gm/L + Econeem plus 1 %- 1 mL/L of water

after 10 days second drench [ 11th  Day and 31st day]

Ecomonas 20 gm/L + PI Humesol 2 mL/L + Econeem plus 1 %- 1 mL/L of water

It is good to repeat the treatment once in six months twice to keep away the wilt disease. Proper control measures will help the crop grow healthy and yield if not disease will lead to remove the crop completely.

Alternaria disease of Papaya plants

 Alternaria disease infections are caused by fungus Alternaria alternata. Incidence is more in dull cooler climatic conditions. The leaves which are in the centre turn yellow with reduced size.

Manage early blight disease in Tomato

Early blight disease is a fungal infection in tomato. Disease is severe when moisture is high and cooler temperature in atmosphere. Infected leaves will possess the concentric circular black spots.

Control Powdery Mildew disease in Papaya Crop

Powdery mildew disease in Papaya crop is caused by an obligate parasitic fungi Oidium caricae.  Disease is more evident in humid areas with warm days and cool nights. Powdery mildew spores can germinate in 10–12 hours supported by low light levels, high humidity, and moderate tem­peratures and are mainly dispersed by wind currents.

  • The leaves’ undersides are speckled with small, water-soaked spots later develop become powdery patches of mycelium and spores.

Manage Bacterial Wilt disease in Brinjal

Bacterial wilt disease symptoms in Brinjal plants

Bacterial Wilt of Brinjal is caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum. This species of bacteria also infects other Solanaceous crops like Tomato and Potato.

Symptoms:

  1. Yellowing of the older leaves, stunted growth, wilting symptoms and finally collapse of the entire plant.
  2. Infected plant shows damping or drooping at high temperature noon times and pretends recover at nights
  3. Older lower leaves show drooping symptoms first before wilting occurs.

Management of Bacterial Wilt in Brinjal Crop

  • Follow crop rotation
  • Rogue out the infected plants and destroy them
  • Raise nursery in disease free beds
  • Seedling treatment after transplanting with Plantomycin5 gm/L 25 mL per plant at 4- 5 days after germination.

Manage White flies on Vegetable and Flower crops

White flies attack many plant species in the open fields and as well as in the greenhouses. White flies suck sap from the plants, causing yellow mottling on the surface of the leaves, wilting and stunting. They also help in transmission of viruses and producing honeydew, which attract black fungi of sooty molds.

  1. High moisture or less moisture in the soil.
  2. Fungal infections like Powdery mildew or Downy mildew.

    Management of Xanthomonas Blight [Theliya]  disease on Pomegranate plants

    Protect carrot crop from leaf blight

    Carrot blight disease

    Blight disease in carrot appears on leaves as small variously-sized dark brown to black lesions on margins or edges. In uncontrolled severe infections, the lesions enlarge killing leaflets with brown colour. The older leaves of carrot are infected initially and later disease also appear on younger leaves.

    Viral diseases management in Potato crop

    Protect Chickpea and other pulses from damping off disease

    Dam-ing off disease of Chickpea and pea

    Seeds sown into the soil while germinating are killed by the damping-off disease before emerging out of the ground. Sudden death of seedlings or Damping off is a disease often caused by soil-borne fungus. The young tender stems will become soft and eventually turns black killing the seedlings.

    Sowing or broadcasting the seeds after treatment will reduce the soil borne infections and protect from damping off.

    Seed Treatment

    Dissolve 100 mL Humicas + Ridomet 25 gm/ kg and evenly coat on one kg of Channa [ Chickpea], Pea seeds or any pulses seeds

    Young seedlings may be drenched with the following combinations. These combinations will not only protect the seedlings form fungal attack but also provide the required growth promoting substances for the better growth and yield of the crops.

    Control loose smut disease in Wheat crop

     

    Among wheat diseases loose smut is a common disease. The developing seed kernels in the wheat head are covered with by black teliospores. Seeds won’t develop in infected heads and disease is spread by blowing winds dispersing teliospores. Disease is more severe in cool, humid weather.
