Jassids are small, pale green insects that pierce tomato leaves and suck out the sap. A light attack barely shows, but once numbers build up, leaves curl downward, turn pale or bronze, and the plant's growth slows down right when it should be putting energy into fruiting.

How to Spot Them

  • Pale green, wedge-shaped insects that jump or fly off when leaves are disturbed
  • Leaf edges curling downward and turning yellow or bronze
  • Leaves feeling coarse or brittle to the touch
  • Stunted growth on younger plants under heavy attack
  • Damage usually starts on lower leaves first

What Brings Them On

  • Hot, dry weather with occasional humid spells
  • Nearby fields or weeds already carrying jassids
  • Tender new growth after irrigation or fertiliser application
  • Overuse of broad-spectrum sprays that wipe out natural predators

Solutions to Control Jassids in Tomato

1. Flonicamid 50% WG

This one stops jassids from feeding within hours of contact, so they stop damaging the plant well before they actually die off. It's gentle on bees and other helpful insects, and also handles aphids and whitefly if they show up in the same field.

Products Recommendation

2. Dimpropyridaz 120 g/l SL

A newer insecticide that works on the pest's sensory system, so jassids get confused, stop feeding, and can't fly properly. It moves well through the plant and keeps protecting new leaves as they grow, giving longer-lasting cover between sprays.

Other Practices to Keep Jassids Away

  • Keep field borders and bunds free of weeds that host jassids
  • Avoid excess nitrogen, it encourages the soft growth jassids prefer
  • Check the underside of leaves regularly, especially after irrigation
  • Avoid spraying broad-spectrum insecticides unless really needed, to protect natural predators

Note: Spray as soon as curling or yellowing starts, waiting until the whole plant looks affected makes recovery much slower.
