Improve groundnut/Peanut yields
Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the most important oilseed crops, containing 44–56% oil along with 22–30% protein. It has occupied around 45% area and 55% of total production of oilseed. In India, the groundnut crop is grown in all three seasons viz. kharif, rabi and summer. Kharif production alone contributes for around 75% of total production.
Groundnut is a semi-determinate crop, It has continuous vegetative growth even after reproductive stage and this is one of the reasons of sink-source imbalance which ultimately results in lower productivity. During kharif season mutual shading due to excess vegetative growth reduces the production of groundnut hence farmers may use growth retardant like Paclobutrazol ( Cultar and Taboli).
Paclobutrazol , plant growth retardant of triazole family. It acts by inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis, reducing internodal growth to give shorter stems, increasing root growth, flowering and increases the yield.
In the cultivation of the groundnut, along with good cultural practices, the use of Cultar or Taboli can stimulate the flowering, pegging and increase the yield.
